Panama. Panama and the United Kingdom signed an agreement on Energy Reduction and Low Carbon Innovation that will increase the number of public schools benefiting from a sustainability program in the Central American country, an official source said today.
The document was signed by Panamanian Vice Foreign Minister Luis Miguel Hincapié and the United Kingdom's Ambassador to Panama, Ian Collard, the Panamanian Foreign Ministry reported.
Hincapié said that this agreement will contribute to the strengthening of the "Sustainable Schools of Panama" program, which is currently being developed in public schools to reduce their energy use, obtain savings in costs and carbon consumption.
This program began in 2015 in five schools selected for their high consumption of electricity, belonging to the Educational Region of San Miguelito (east of the capital) and central Panama.
For his part, Collard highlighted the pleasure of supporting Panama in this project initiated with Innovation and Science funds from the British Government, and developed by the non-profit organization Carbon Trust, with the collaboration of the National Secretariat of Energy and the Ministry of Education of Panama.
The signing of this agreement will allow more schools to be added nationwide with the interest of reducing the high consumption of electricity in the country's official schools, said the source, who did not specify figures.
