Airports can now access modern facial recognition technology

International. Oslo Airport, Norway, has improved the passenger experience through the implementation of MorphoFace, IDEMIA's facial capture solution, in its new automated border control gates, powered by the MorphoWAY byIDEMIA solution.

After the successful launch of the product at Changi Terminal 4 and its integration into New Zealand customs posts, this is the first implementation of MorphoFace by IDEMIA in Europe. The new system, launched just before the massive influx of passengers in the summer, replaces an old infrastructure with the latest technology on the market and extends automated border control to the departures area of Oslo Airport.

IDEMIA technology captures the face in motion, without using moving parts or additional lighting. Thanks to its small form factor, MorphoFace offers an unobstructed view at all doors, improving both the passenger experience and overall safety.

The project, designed to measure, was executed in close collaboration with Avinor, the Norwegian police and local partner Seca Solutions AS, which is part of the Dormakaba Group.

IDEMIA's border control solutions can be configured to suit specific local environments and requirements. In addition to a departure and arrival process, this implementation offers a remote monitoring solution for the Norwegian police, with Avinor as an official partner, which allows to handle alerts during the crossing of passengers and communicate with systems (national, European and international) to support the border processes of immigration and emigration.

IDEMIA's full range of traveller processing products address pre-arrival passenger authentication to streamline the flow and tracking of passengers at the airport, which goes a long way towards governments, airports and airlines addressing the most current challenges.

"Many of the existing automated border control infrastructures in Europe are already almost 10 years old and need a new and updated approach. With our solution, Oslo Airport can reinvent the passenger experience," explains Philippe BARREAU, Executive Vice President of Citizen Identity and Public Safety Activities at IDEMIA.
