According to a report prepared by one of the most important real estate fund management companies, 54% of the companies that have implemented the Breeam certification method already have a department specialized in this function and of that percentage, 63% confirmed that they expect to achieve a financial return this year based on sustainability.
The report also reveals that the number of properties that bet on sustainable construction has tripled since 2011, as shown by figures from the most representative certifying companies in Europe: French HQE (67%) and the strongest expansion corresponded to the German label Dgnb (550%) and Breeam multiplies by four its volume of certificates to a total of 2,947, 63% of the total certificates issued in Europe in 2013, while the Leed seal of North American origin reaches 296 certificates, 6% of the total.
The Breeam certificate evaluates areas such as management, health and well-being, energy, transportation, water, materials, waste, land use, ecology, pollution and innovation. In addition, it helps reduce the environmental impact produced by the building and promotes energy consumption savings from 30 to 70%.
It also reduces water consumption by up to 40% and helps reduce maintenance and operating costs by 8%.
