Colombia. This country will host the first Latin American version of the Solar Decathlon, an international event that seeks to promote the development of self-sustaining, low-cost and energy-efficient housing.
The announcement was made official this week from Washington, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the U.S. Department of Energy, the Ministry of Mines and the city of Cali, which will serve as host.
Solar Decathlon is an American initiative that was born in 2002 and since then it has been held every two years in a different city in the world.
It is a contest that calls for university students, research centers and private companies to develop green or environmentally friendly housing.
In this case the participants will be from Latin America and the Caribbean. His inventions and proposals will be presented to the public in December 2015.
For the signing of the memorandum, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Amylkar Acosta, and the Mayor of Cali, Rodrigo Guerrero Velasco, traveled to Washington.
