A new case of savings in electricity costs confirms the importance and advantages of using the solar resource as a raw material for energy. These are the roofs of the workshops of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), where they have installed a system of solar panels that has enabled savings of close to US $ 4 million in its first four years of service.
In that period of time, a total of 11,105,667 kilowatt hours (kwh) has been sold. Data that allow us to conclude that from October 2009 to September 2012 this system has allowed to avoid that 13,178 tons of CO2 are emitted into the atmosphere.
At the same time, it was possible to meet the electrical needs of some 4,000 homes during the same period of time.
In the last financial year, from October 2011 to September 2012, production amounted to 2,638,289 kwh, the equivalent of the electricity consumption of almost 1,000 houses, which has meant the non-emission of 3,300 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and a saving of close to one million dollars in the FGV energy bill.
This new example of enormous guarantees of energy performance, significant economic savings and invaluable benefits to the environment becomes a new test of success on the way to reducing the negative impact that generation after generation the human species has caused to the ozone layer.
In the case of Latin American countries, it is a new example of how to address the issue of solar energy, especially in those countries that enjoy the sun's rays most of the year.
