More than US$50,000 per year will be saved by the municipality of Esplugues in Spain for telephony and internet, thanks to the creation of a new fiber optic network that seeks to improve communication between municipal buildings.
The network has a length of 13 kilometers and the installation of six WiFi connection points in an equal number of buildings is planned to achieve significant savings in the telecommunications network.
The corporate network, which has been built through the State Employment Fund for Local Sustainability and will be able to communicate through the internet the 20 municipal facilities that are distributed throughout the city.
It is expected that with this new technological implementation the municipal coffers will achieve an annual saving of 25,000 euros (about US $ 50,000), thanks to the fact that now the city council will no longer have to contract with telecommunications companies, in this way it will be able to reduce spending in this area.
As if that were not enough, another of the advantages that they have managed to develop through the application of fiber optics is a system of video surveillance cameras that have been installed in various public spaces of the city with the aim of controlling vandalism.
