Greater control in inspections and the tightening of sanctions is the requirement made by the National Association of Pest Control Companies (Anecpla), in Spain, with the aim of controlling and avoiding outbreaks of any type of virus harmful to human health, especially that of legionella that was recently detected in Córdoba and Vizcaya.
As reported by the association in a statement, these outbreaks are still active and have led to the precautionary closures of a spa hotel in Orduña (Vizcaya) and a cooling tower of a company in Nueva Carteya (Córdoba) and, for the moment, the result has been several people affected and hospitalized.
This same claim could be applied to all those spaces that are characterized by their large influx of visitors, especially those tourist sites from all regions, specifically tropical and humid areas, which are usually more prone to the proliferation of viruses.
To avoid and control this type of outbreak, Anecpla believes that "greater control of the authorities is necessary in those facilities with a risk of legionella dispersal."
In the same way, it ensures that scrupulous compliance with the legislation by owners and users and the increase of precautionary measures are essential.
According to the association, epidemics normally appear in summer or early autumn, but cases can happen throughout the year. The Association stated that an average of five to 30% of people suffering from legionellosis die, especially when antibiotic treatments are delayed.
