According to figures from the Federation of Associations and Chambers of Elevators of the Argentine Republic (Facara), 48% of elevator accidents correspond to faults in the maintenance of equipment; 32% for a poor security system and 16% for failures of the electrical installation.
The above figures are a cause for concern among the members since the elevator is considered the second most important means of transport in that country, since it is estimated that around nine and a half million people use them daily, a figure that puts this device above the train, the metro and the collective.
In the Argentine capital alone, in the last ten years, 250 accidents were recorded, more than half of which occurred in residential properties, said Andrés Pozzo, president of Fecara.
As the Federation assured, one of the main problems of the elevators is the ignorance in the control of these equipment, there is not enough supply of professionals who are dedicated to the correct maintenance or execute the appropriate controls in the stages of manufacture, installation and maintenance.
