From the municipal mayor's office of the district of Bellavista, in Callao, Peru, the initiative was launched to reduce the temperature of the buildings by applying white paint on the ceilings and, at the same time, help solar radiation to be expelled back into space. The project has been called White Roof.
Iván Rivadeneyra, mayor of the district, explained that the ceilings of the buildings in his town will be painted white, with resources from the municipality, with the aim of mitigating the effects of climate change.
Likewise, it seeks to reduce the internal temperature of the buildings. "Indeed, there are studies that certify that the white color reflects the sun's rays and therefore helps to lower the temperature of a certain place and reduce the energy use of cooling systems," Rivadeneyra said.
The first stage of the proposal will be applied in the Torres de San José, this will contribute to reducing the impact of climate change, as the news about it is alarming. According to the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi), the levels of ultraviolet radiation for the month of February yielded an index of 14 or 15 points, which is considered extreme.
