International. Schneider Electric has announced the launch of the new PowerTag sensor, a wireless energy collector, which has been developed with the aim of improving monitoring and safety in electrical panels. PowerTag simplifies obtaining information from circuit breakers, providing facility owners and managers with accurate information with powerful, real-time data to improve the performance of a facility's strategic electrical equipment.
Designed to be used in medium and large buildings, this energy sensor monitors and measures electricity consumption, currents, voltages, power and power factor. The first of its kind with this type of connection, allows greater safety of electrical equipment by providing the ability to better manage critical loads, increasing the reliability and efficiency of the electrical installation.
The information is sent wirelessly to a hub that displays the data through a web page, and can also be connected directly to a more complex BMS or management system. As the sensors detect the absence of voltage in the line, they allow to create personalized alarms that will be sent to the email of the facility managers every time the protection triggers, thus contributing to the remote monitoring of the equipment. In addition, these sensors are able to determine the reason for the firing of the circuit breakers, being able to distinguish if it has been due to a short circuit or an overload, which is an unprecedented novelty in the DIN rail switchgear.
This compact real-time energy sensor saves space by easily fitting into any new or existing electrical panel and improving the energy efficiency of the entire installation. It adapts to iC60 circuit breakers and is also compatible with differential switches, the iK60 range and Schneider Electric's Acti9 communication system, to offer customers a unique monitoring, control and measurement solution.
The PowerTag sensor captures the voltage, intensity, power and energy in the electrical circuit in which it is installed and transmits the information captured by radio frequency to a concentrator that can receive the information from up to 20 sensors. The Smartlink Ethernet and Smartlink Lite hubs have a built-in web server that displays a page to see all the information in real time without the need for any programming. PowerTag is available directly through Schneider Electric and authorized distributors.
