Hotel construction grows in Latin America

 Crece construcción de hoteles en América LatinaWith a total of 131 new hotel establishments totaling some 21,957 rooms, the June STR Pipeline Report, which counts hotel availability in the Caribbean region of Latin America, closed.

This figure means a slight increase in the construction of hotels during June compared to the month of May.

Mexico is the country that is building the largest number of rooms with a total of 4,025. For its part, in the Dominican Republic 2,475 rooms are advanced, Bahhamas with 2,271, Puerto Rico with 709, Aruba with 320 and Jamaica with 238.

This analysis includes those projects that are in the construction phase, as well as those that are in the planning and final planning phase. Those initiatives that are barely in the pre-planning phase are excluded.

According to the STR report for the month of June, the regions of Central and South America total 247 hotels under construction, which will provide this area with some 39,537 rooms.

As indicated by the results of this study, 2013 has led to the opening of 23 hotels with 3,066 rooms in Latin America and it is expected that by 2014 the region will have 104 more establishments totaling 17,072 rooms that, for the most part, are located in the middle segment (3,992 rooms). The upper segment will enter 3,842 rooms and in the upper middle segment will enter 2,845.
