The Dominican energy group Basic Energy Ltd. and the investment conglomerate WIN Group of Haiti announced the signing of an agreement for the construction of a hotel near the Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince in Haiti, which will have an investment of US $ 33 million and will be the first hotel adjacent to the airport in this country. The project will start by the end of 2010 and is expected to be completed in 18 months. It will have 240 rooms and conference rooms with a capacity of 400 people, in an area of 2.1 hectares and will be completely self-sustainable, with its own power and water treatment plant. The design is in charge of OBM International, a company with more than 70 years of experience in the hotel sector.
The accommodation will offer its guests spa, gym, outdoor pool and rest rooms, as well as meet the necessary specifications of a building with protection for earthquakes.
"This is a project of great importance on many levels," said WIN Group management partner Youri Mevs. "Not only will it provide much-needed accommodation and conference facilities for the country, but it will employ hundreds of workers in dire need of generating income to support themselves and their families," he added.
