Colombia continues to be one of the most important markets for the Starwood chain, which plans to open a new Four Points brand hotel in 2013, and a Sheraton Hotel in the city of Cartagena by 2014, among other initiatives that aim to consolidate its presence in the coffee country.
As Ricardo Suárez, vice president of development in Latin America for the company, explained to the local media, this interest is due to the fact that "Colombia is one of the most important countries we have in Latin America, without a doubt. In number of hotels, it is above Peru and in line with Chile."
And he added that "although we have projects in development, we see potential for the arrival of brands such as W or Westin to Cartagena, which are very positioned in Mexico and the Caribbean as holiday resorts, and this city fits the profile, which is luxury because it has a lot of international tourism."
In addition to the projects proposed for the coastal city of Cartagena, the company also plans to make investments in intermediate cities in which it sees the opportunity to open a new market.
"We have interest in several places in Colombia, although there is nothing official that we can announce at the moment," the official said.
