Mexico. The Social Security Institute of the State of Mexico and Municipalities (ISSEMyM) announced that its Regional Hospital of Tlalnepantla received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification granted by the US Green Building Council.
In a statement, the agency detailed the award that attests that the hospital center has equipment and physical infrastructure that guarantees a low emission of pollutants, and has managed to reduce up to 35 percent of the electrical energy it uses and to date registers a saving of more than 40 percent of the drinking water it consumes.
The General Director of this institution explained that the LEED certification recognizes all those buildings that meet international criteria of environmental sustainability and that have the best strategies and practices, being this hospital the first to receive this Certification throughout the country, the seventh in Latin America and the 240th internationally.
The official added that the variables with which this certification is determined include the selection of materials for its construction, that the environment of the site where it was located is not affected, that it promotes the rational use of energy and water, that they have healthier and more productive spaces and that through different actions collaborate in improving environmental quality.
In addition, he added that with the use of efficient resources significant savings have been obtained that are reflected in a higher real estate value and lower maintenance costs.
