Valencia aims to be a smart city

International. The City Council of Valencia, through its Smart City unit, will opt for the aid granted by Red.es through the call for smart buildings. The project presented proposes a more modern and effective management of up to 194 municipal buildings and facilities.

The Valencia Smart City (VLCi) platform would integrate all connections that would benefit sports buildings, museums and monuments, municipal markets and schools. In all these municipal spaces, the installation of internal and external environmental sensors that would allow to control air and light pollution, temperature, humidity, etc. is proposed; there would also be energy and water consumption sensors to ensure energy efficiency and economic savings.

The Councilor for Electronic Administration, Pere Fuset, explained that "the SmartCity project to which we opted proposes specific functionalities according to the type of installation". Thus, in 58 sports buildings, the management and reservations of the facilities and activities offered would improve, with greater accessibility and comfort for users as well as occupancy sensors to control capacity and access.

For 22 museums and monuments, an online ticketing platform and a dynamic content display system as well as options related to geolocation and augmented reality are proposed.

For 16 municipal markets, a modern platform is proposed within the reach of customers, sellers and managers that could offer new online services. About a hundred schools would also benefit from this aid, with an environmental awareness platform for the educational community of 98 schools.

Fuset was optimistic about Valencia's options to receive these grants from ERDF Funds and recalled that the new project 'Conecta VLCi' would be added to 'Impulso VLCi', valued at six million euros, which already had in 2016 the acceptance and aid from Red.es, which is currently finalizing the awards of the contemplated initiatives.
