International. Brussels South Charleroi Airport (BSCA) has merged with Telenet to create an airport 3.0. The aim is to create smart facilities that improve the passenger experience and obtain various data to continue applying additional services.
25,000 passengers a day pass through the Brussels South Charleroi Airport, becoming a reason to learn more about the movements of the public that moves around the facilities. The union between BCSA and Telenet will last five years to generate an IoT-based ecosystem. Both companies have jointly developed a solution for analyzing and mapping the flow of visitors to collect information to understand, manage and market the services offered by the airport.
Telenet has chosen to extend its IoT solutions on the Microsoft platform, to encourage start-up and existing companies or universities to experiment and develop new services and applications within the airport.
Smart car parks
Within these smart improvements, the airport and Telenet plan to improve parking facilities through the use of an app to reserve and pay for a parking space. Likewise, the installed smart cameras will recognize the license plate of the vehicle when it enters the car park, while Telenet's NB-IoT networked sensors will indicate the spaces that are left free. It is expected that in summer 2019 about 500 available places will be generated with this system.
On the other hand, Telenet will improve the Wi-Fi network by increasing its signal and will provide BSCA with the location data of its visitors, to analyze their behavior and offer personalized services to their passengers or help them throughout their journey. Telenet wants to have the first set of data ready throughout 2019.
