Mexico. Although there are regulations that seek to reduce fires and deaths of people, the public and private sector need to make greater investments in planning and maintenance of facilities such as hydrants, hoses, fire extinguishers, retardants, sprinklers and smoke detectors to reduce the number of fires in Mexico.
The Manager of International Fire Safety Consulting of Mexico, Eng. Raúl Sánchez Mesa, stressed that there are few companies that invest in the purchase of fire technologies, which allocate a budget to this item is because the insurers of the properties, require the purchase of equipment and use of fire retardants that allow employees or inhabitants of a property to evict the facilities without suffering any damage. Only in this way do the insurers proceed to pay the damages.
He recalled that worldwide there are associations and specialists that influence to create awareness respecting the regulations and purchase of equipment to inhibit fires. "It's a race that goes little by little, but the important thing is that it advances."
At the national level, fire specialists were dedicated to other branches, however, the same inertia was leading them to specialize in firefighting, unlike in the United States, where there are careers focused on reducing these disasters.
In his opinion, most of the risky activities in Mexico are regulated, but unfortunately the rules are not respected.
He considered that large constructions hire engineering offices in fire systems that allow to contemplate before the construction of the property, the site where the facilities will be located, adhering to the existing standards.
"The specialists review the designs of the areas to be evacuated, the dimensions that the equipment must have that allow the water to come out with the appropriate pressure when using the hoses, without any failures."
He stressed that it is important that the specialists in the field are updated to achieve a perfect installation and revision of the equipment.
He highlighted the importance of events such as the International Congress of Integral Security, CISI 2019, which will be held within the framework of Expo Seguridad Industrial (ESI) from May 7 to 9 next year at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City, which allows specialists to learn not only about the fires but also about the flow that the hoses must have, the lighting of the systems, the new regulations and technologies of recent creation.
