The Gastronomic Hotel Business Federation (Fehgra) reported that about 400,000 hotel beds operate irregularly in the main tourist areas of Argentina.
This situation means a high risk to the safety of the guest, and causes non-compliance with laws and payment of taxes.
According to Roberto Brunello, president of Fehgra, there is a request to Congress to modify the Urban Locations Law "in order to ensure legal, tax and social security equality among providers of tourist accommodation services."
During the meeting of its board of directors, last April in Iguazú, it was pointed out "the worrying overflow of offers of accommodation classes that threaten the safety of tourists and the heritage of hotel companies in their various modalities recognized by law."
For his part, Jordi Busquets, advisor to FEHGRA, said that in the last eight years, between 2003 and 2011, hotel beds grew by 39%. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, this means that there are currently a little more than 600,000 places.
For Brunello, the Federation is not against the entrepreneurs of the hotel market, on the contrary, the ideal is to work all with the same regulations.
