The administrative drawbacks of a tourist facility, even one as representative and important as the Eiffel Tower, show their results in the dissatisfaction of employees and, consequently, in the loss of income.
Due to administrative problems, the Eiffel Tower was closed on Tuesday, June 25. The incident took place in the middle of a strike declared on the same day by the CGT union, the majority among the nearly 300 workers of that monument.
The statement released by the CGT points out as the main points of the conflict the need for a reinforcement of security measures or the obtaining by the City of Paris of a guarantee to renegotiate the investment program over the next 10 years.
"The Eiffel Tower has the particularity of depending on its means of ascension. In 2008, it was decided to renovate the West elevator. The works were to last two years and cost five million euros. After five years, it is still out of service and the amount of the works is already close to 40 million euros, "says that text.
The union denounces that the lack of this elevator has an impact on the state of the other elevators, reduces the possibilities of accommodating people, lengthens waiting lines and degrades working conditions.
The last strike at that monument dates back to 2010, and lasted two days.
