The Venezuelan government has taken over the facilities of the Hilton Margarita & Suites Hotel Complex, following a decree signed by President Hugo Chavez upon the expiration of the 20-year concession for the Hilton chain.According to what was expressed by the Minister of Tourism, Pedro Morejón, the government's measure has not been arbitrary, it has only taken legitimate possession of a good that belongs to the Venezuelan people, since on October 13 the concession of the US chain expired.
The minister commented that the takeover is being done behind open doors and timeshare partners will be able to continue enjoying the hotel and their contractual relationships will be respected. The companies Inversiones Pueblamar and Desarrollos M.B.K, C.A., owners of the establishment, have not yet commented on the matter.
