In the fifth month of 2010 the indicators of the hotel industry in the American continent show a good recovery. According to data from STR and STR Global, occupancy in the region touched 7.5% to 59.1%, the average daily rate, ADR, decreased 0.2% to US$99.10 and revenue per available room, RevPAR, increased 7.8% to US$58.54.
The destination with the highest occupancy was Mexico City, Mexico, with a percentage of 154.8 for 59.2%. Buenos Aires, Argentina, ranked second with 19% for 61.4%, and Sao Paulo, Brazil, in third place with 17.7% for 70.0%. The only destination that showed a decrease in occupancy was Alberta, Canada, with 3.5% to 56.7%.
The highest ADR in the month of May was Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with 27.3% for US$164.35, followed by Sao Paulo which was 21.5% for US$106.92; mexico City added 18.2% for US$113.66 and New York, New York, 15% for US$231.38. The largest decline in ADR was presented by Chicago, Illinois, with 5.2% to US$113.77.
As for RevPAR, the highest number was obtained by Mexico City with 201.3% for US$67.32 and while Alberta was the only destination that decreased, falling 3.0% to US$71.06.
