The Hotel Association of Colombia asked the government for control measures over buildings and permits to build more hotels in the country.According to the Association, the supply of establishments could exceed demand due to the high concentration of hotel investments in the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Bucaramanga.
Jaime Alberto Cabal, national president of Cotelco, said that the most important cities are being saturated and the regions that do not have infrastructure are being neglected. "We must review and put a logical direction to the hotel investment so important that is being made in the country," he said.
The costs of domestic tourism for foreigners increased due to the revaluation, while it cheapened the international tourism offer for Colombians.
However, the General Manager of the Sofitel Santa Clara hotel, in Cartagena, Benoit Delgrange, believes that Colombia offers many investment opportunities, so the Accor Group announced the construction of eight more hotels in the country.
