The Costa Rican hotel industry is implementing energy-efficient practices through the "Regional Energy Efficiency Program in Small Hotels in El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica", allowing a decrease of 308 megawatts / hour in the electricity consumption of hotels in La Fortuna in San Carlos, Costa Rica.With an initial investment of US$75,000, accommodations such as Arenal Paraíso, Arenal Springs Resort, Volcano Lodge, Regina, Las Colinas, Cangreja Lodge, San Bosco, among others, installed more efficient air conditioners, as well as solar-thermal systems for water heating and trained maintenance personnel in environmentally friendly energy practices.
This initiative is funded by the Humanist Institute for Development Cooperation based in the Netherlands and has the technical support of the Energy Network Foundation (BUN-CA) of Costa Rica.
