A 53% growth in hotel occupancy in the city of Guadalajara was reported by the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico; the situation is due to the celebration of the Pan American Games that will begin next Friday and will last until Saturday, October 30.
According to Rocha, the number of rooms reserved for the next three weeks amounts to 100,000 but forecasts indicate that they will grow until Thursday, the day before the opening ceremony: "Until the last day of September we had a record of 53% in hotel occupancy, which should grow in the coming days when visitors and the international press arrive", the official said.
The calculations of the hotel associations operating in the state of Jalisco indicate that the international event will leave 300 million pesos in profits for the city (about US$22.3 million), and 5,900 athletes from 42 countries are expected to attend, as well as 800,000 national and foreign tourists.
One of the main attractions for the reception of visitors is an application for smartphones that allows the user to locate the main attractions, access routes, emergency telephones, recreational activities, location of hotels and location of sports venues in the city.
As a complement, the authorities have been responsible for installing 32 tourist information modules in sports venues and public squares, in addition to providing free transport to the venues of the competitions and offering scheduled tours of the main tourist attractions of the city.
