During 2011 the growth of the hotel sector in the Bolivian capital has been slow and disorderly, as stated by the Cámara Hotelera de La Paz in a document in which they call on the National Government to encourage tourism and organization of the hospitality industry.
"There is a certain vegetative progress and the hotel industry is growing by inertia, but it does not respond to a plan, a strategy and a vision," said the president of the Chamber, Luis Ampuero who, however, clarified that the situation in other cities may vary.
And it is that as reported by the local newspaper La Razón, it is estimated that the annual growth of the sector in the Bolivian capital could vary between 5% and 7%.
Ampuero also stressed that in the remainder of 2011 the opening of two new five-star hotels in La Paz has been budgeted, a figure that is visibly lower than that of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the second most important city in the country.
"While we make two small five-star hotels in a year, the people of Santa Cruz possibly do that every year and not two, but three," the official compared, adding that the DyM chain will open 10 new five-star hotels throughout the national territory.
