After the prohibition of casinos throughout the territory of Ecuador, after the popular consultation held in the middle of this year, the large hotel chains have already begun to reorganize their physical spaces that were initially designed for this type of places.
In the city of Guayaquil, new hotel projects, such as the Holiday Inn Guayaquil Airport, are already analyzing several options to replace this space. It is expected that there the administrators of the establishment will locate rooms for meetings, social events and seek to expand the business center.
Likewise, the Wyndham, which is under construction, will also have to modify its space for casinos, which has a diameter of 1,000 m². The event rooms will also be the alternative to cover this space.
At Hotel Sonesta, the administrators plan to sell the 1,190 m² space for the installation of commercial premises or a restaurant.
After the creation of the decree last May, hotels with casinos had a period of six months to end these activities, which for establishments such as Sonesta and Wyndham meant revenues of about US $ 7 million in five years of operation.
