The president of the Brazilian group Jhsf, Zeco Auriemo, is studying the possibility of opening a hotel in Cuba through his fasano hotel chain, this would be the second project of this company after building in Uruguay in the Punta del Este region, the first hotel abroad.
Varadero or Havana are the two options to carry out the project, which represents the Latin American entry into the hotel industry in Cuba, which until now has been monopolized by Europeans and Canadians.
Some politicians close to the Cuban government like Jose Dirceu are trying to help make the project feasible. Likewise, the Minister of Foreign Trade of Cuba, Rodrigo Malmierca was in Sao Paulo explaining the new legislation that allows the transfer on loan of 99 years for hotel construction areas.
Since the Lula da Silva government, the Brazil-Cuba trade flow increased fivefold, reaching US$500 million; Brazil is the fifth largest investor in Cuba behind Venezuela, China, Canada and Spain.
