As positive qualify the authorities of the city of Cartagena, Colombia, the balance during the Christmas festivities and beginning of 2012 in terms of hotel occupancy is concerned.
According to the executive director of the Colombian Hotel Association, John Fredy Barragán, after December 15 the city reached 90% occupancy and even after the holiday, between January 7 and 9, some hotels reached 100%.
These figures were higher than those of the previous season by 20%, partly because the city on the North Coast of that country had 800 new rooms for this occasion. The balance sheet in 2010 registered 50% occupancy, while in 2011 the figure rose to 70%.
For the local authorities, aspects such as the climate, the improvement of the roads and the services of the airlines helped so that Cartagena could receive tourists without inconvenience.
For her part, the president of the board of directors of the Hotel Association of Colombia and Cotelco in Cartagena, Martha Lucía Noguera, said that the only concern of the authorities in the city has to do with parahospitality, an issue in which they are working with training to seek to formalize this activity.
