As recently reported by the president of the Association of Hotels and Motels of Tabasco, Mexico, Alfredo Cobo González, that region "expects a hotel occupancy of 75% in Holy Week and a minimum stay of two nights per person."
As indicated by the official, each hotel has an operator that will allow them to design packages where the plane ticket will be included, which is expected to encourage the visit to this city from any national destination.
This association is working hand in hand with the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) and the Convention and Visitors Bureau (OCV) with the aim of promoting a destination that these days is one of the most demanded by travelers from all over the world. It is about the promotion of the Mayan world.
The statistics report a historic hotel occupancy during the month of March of 75%, thanks to convention tourism that produced about 17 congresses and an average arrival of 7,000 visitors. "This brought us great economic benefits. Business tourism is the best option during the off-season," Cobo added.
This growth has been progressive, in 2010 hotel occupancy was 58% with a stay of 1.8 nights per person. In 2011 this figure rose to 65% in occupancy and 2.2 nights of stay and now, in 2012, it is estimated that the occupancy will be 70% and the stay per cisitant will be 2.8 nights.
This positive news brings other equally good ones, such as the increase in direct, indirect, temporary and fixed employment. "It is important to promote Tabasco, because when there is enough movement we all win: taxi drivers, hotels, restaurants, shops, jobs are created, more advertising and wealth is generated," said Cobo González.
