The percentage of growth of informal hotels in San Luis Potosí, state of Mexico, rises to more than 50%. According to businessman Rafael Armendáriz, this situation puts at risk the well-being of guests and the image of the region.
For Armendáriz the rent of apartments and complexes must be counted within the hotel informality because from there the state stops receiving money at the rate of taxes, insurance and income taxes.
According to the president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur), Jaime Cantú Sánchez, this type of business should be attacked. The official called for users to avoid staying in such places, because in addition to being at risk their well-being contribute to unemployment.
Among the many disadvantages that Cantú mentioned, he added that informal hospitality leaves losses to formal entrepreneurs, it is dangerous for human health due to the risk of contracting diseases and infections, since these establishments do not comply with the rules of law.
Likewise, informal hotels do not follow security protocols so they cannot guarantee the tranquility of their guests, said the official.
