Due to the recent political events in Paraguay on the dismissal of former President Fernando Lugo and the arrival of Federico Franco as president of that nation, the Asociación Industrial Hotelera de Paraguay (AIHPY), headed by Mrs. Mónica Caballero, pronounced on the facts and the impact of the same for the sector.
This news, announced AHIP, resulted in the cancellation of hotel reservations, and although there was an increase in the arrival of journalists, this did not compensate for the decrease in tourist visits that was reported.
Caballeró said that the Association supports the institutional process that concluded in the dismissal of the president of the Paraguayans and clarified that the situation in his country is not critical and that everything develops normally for the good of tourism.
"We clarify our support for the institutionality, advocating for the pacification of the entire Republic, stating that our country needs, today more than ever, the support and contribution of all good Paraguayans to return peace and tranquility to all homes," says the statement issued.
Likewise, the official called on regional governments to recognize the sovereignty of her country and was emphatic in rejecting any interference that other countries make in internal affairs, asked neighboring nations to desist from actions that "exacerbate the spirits and create useless tensions between Paraguayans."
Finally, the AHIP announced that it supports the management of the Minister of Tourism, Liz Cramer, and recognizes her good performance in the task of increasing the number of visitors in the country.
"We remind public opinion that tourism is a growing industry that generates important income for the most varied segments of the population and that its strengthening depends on the perception of people who visit us to participate in congresses, work meetings, fairs or tourism," said the Association at a press conference.
