In recent months the tourist demand in Uruguay has been increasing, so the construction of 25 new hotel establishments is forecast, 12 of which will be in Montevideo.
According to the Minister of Tourism of that country, Liliam Kechichian, there is a lot of tourist investment coming "and it will continue to arrive." As the official told the Ansa agency, projects are being carried out such as the remodeling of the Carrasco Hotel, valued as an architectural jewel of the country's capital, which this year celebrates one hundred years and has 119 rooms.
"There is a need for more beds in Montevideo and certainly more high-end beds in Punta del Este and Colonia, where there are only a total of 2,000 beds available," Kechichian said.
Likewise, the official explained that this recent boom in hospitality in Uruguay is not free or random. "We have been part of this process, to the extent that we have a mandatory opinion on what are tourism investments, we have been accompanying them and we have followed up."
Not only the capital of the country is experiencing tourism and hotel growth: in a few days in the department of Paysandú, the Salto Hotel Casino will open, a remodeling of the Gran Hotel Salto that had an investment of US $ 15 million, with 53 rooms and a large meeting room.
Spas and small and large format establishments are planned to be built and inaugurated in the remainder of the year.
