For the year 2014 the World Sustainable Building (WSB14 Barcelona) has been agreed, the first World Congress of Sustainable Building, organized by the Green Building Council Spain.
The event is supported by iiSBE (International Initiative for Sustainability in Building), CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Construction), UNEP-SBCI (United Nations Environment Programme, Sustainable Building initiative and Climate Change) and FIDIC (International Federation of Engineers).
This meeting will have as a fundamental objective to bring together as many experts as possible from the building sector from different latitudes of the world to contribute their experience with respect to the main challenges that must be faced daily in this market.
Some of these problems that the administrators of this type of buildings must face are, according to the organizers of the event: Provide everyone with affordable accommodation in an adequate environment, especially in emerging countries, reduce the ecological footprint, especially the energy footprint and promote a new model of sustainable economic activity, and generate employment.
To draw the guidelines of the contents that the Congress will have, the organizing committee recently met in Barcelona. According to Emilio Miguel Mitre, head of International Relations of the event, "it was very satisfactory to see the high degree of harmony of all the participants who are highly committed to the work of this important event for our sector reaching a successful conclusion and contributing to make the Congress a success".
Regional Conferences have been confirmed so far in Munich (Germany), Oulu (Finland), Seoul (South Korea), California (United States), Prague (Czech Republic), Coventry (United Kingdom), Singapore (Singapore), Hong Kong, Graz (Austria), South Africa and Botswana, Guimarães (Portugal), Manila (Philippines), Havana (Cuba), and Dubai (United Arab Emirates). All of them will take place throughout 2013.
