Colombia. Three Colombian airports, which are part of the Southwest Airports concession, will be remodeled under the public-private partnership scheme under the approval of the DNP. The airports intervened will be, El Edén (from Armenia), Benito Salas (from Neiva) and Guillermo León Valencia (Popayán).
Simón Gaviria, head of the DNP, said that the modernization of the terminals will cost $437,577 million (US$225.5 million) and that the works will be associated with the increase in passenger and cargo traffic and, of course, the development of commercial businesses.
A new cargo terminal is planned for the Armenian terminal and the runways will be expanded at the Airports of Popayan and Neiva. This will allow Airbus A320 aircraft to land in the Huilense capital without problem.
In 2013, according to the Civil Aeronautics, 307,000 travelers were mobilized in El Eden, while 327,000 did so at Neiva airport. Meanwhile, 91,000 travelers were registered in Popayán.
