Chile. The "Honey for the miners' breakfast" project, an initiative promoted by Sodexo that promotes an inclusive business model, earned the company the 2014 Good Business Citizen award given by the Chilean-American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham).
Of the 28 programs that applied in this version, the project presented by the multinational won in the Innovation category, which highlights emerging initiatives that propose an innovative intervention model, with a new approach and best practices with communities.
Through this program, a sachet of 20 grams of honey was incorporated into the breakfast of the workers of Minera Los Pelambres, improving the nutritional quality of the food that is delivered to the miners.
Initially, the program allowed 51 beekeeping families in the area to be incorporated into the Sodexo value chain, industrializing their production, improving the quality of their products, prices and the volume marketed.
Almost two years after its implementation, more than 150 families have benefited from this project and a business plan has already been initiated in conjunction with the community that will consider the incorporation of honey in other Sodexo contracts throughout the country.
