Chile. The Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile recently inaugurated 46 thousand square meters of the most modern infrastructure for education and research of excellence. The great plus of the work is that it is a sustainable building.
The project incorporated energy efficiency, construction and operation into the design of the building, as one of the hallmarks of this complex of buildings that increases the infrastructure of the FCFM by 50%. The building is distributed in seven floors on the surface and six underground. There are located classrooms, laboratories, offices, auditorium, sports and recreation spaces, swimming pool and parking lots.
The work is in the process of certification under the demanding LEED standards of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Distinction that only a select group of buildings have worldwide and, in Chile, Beauchef 851 would be the first educational project to obtain it.
The project was developed architecturally by the office A4 Arquitectos + Borja Huidobro, whose proposal began to come to life in 2010 with the excavation and construction of the company Ingevec.
