Peru. Currently, more than 100 Peruvian buildings are managing their Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) certification, granted by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The vice president of Administration and Finance of the USGBC, Dave Witek, in his recent visit to this country revealed to local media that in total there are 110 Peruvian buildings that are registered with the USGBC to manage their LEED certification, which recognizes high standards of sustainable environmental management.
Witek mentioned that his presence in Peru was to spread the benefits of ecological construction among Peruvian businessmen and authorities, among whom were officials of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS).
He also stressed that construction projects can contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change through innovations in buildings to reduce the amount of waste, encourage recycling, optimize the use of healthy materials, among others.
