Latin America. According to a study conducted by STR Global, nearly 8,000 hotels are currently under construction worldwide, of which 416 correspond to projects under development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In terms of figures by country, Brazil represents more than half of the new properties in the pipeline with 275.
In South America it is followed by Colombia, with 32 projects, Panama with 16, Chile also in 16 and Argentina with 19 buildings but a smaller number of rooms (2,235 compared to 2,264). On the Mexican and Caribbean side, 161 new hotels will be built by 2015.
Worldwide, the United States is the country that will contribute the most constructions to the total of 7,919 new properties. This country had 3,443 projects in process last December. The Asia-Pacific region will contribute 2,390 new hotels and Europe will have 883 establishments.
