Colombia. Opaín, the company in charge of the operation of the El Dorado Airport in the city of Bogotá, announced a new works plan for the expansion and renovation of this air terminal, to which is also added the construction of a new airport for the year 2021. About 800 billion pesos (US$400 million) will be invested in the expansion project.
The works, scheduled to take place over the next 24 months, will include the expansion of the terminals and the platform, an increase in boarding bridges and the improvement of the runways. Thanks to the above, the airport will go from having 52 operations to 90 at peak times. Likewise, the parking positions of the aircraft will be increased by 19.
According to statements to local media by Andrés Figueredo, representative of Aerocivil, in total the expansion will be 60 thousand square meters for the passenger terminal, and 83 thousand square meters for the platform, for a growth of 30% and 35% respectively.
For its part, the construction of El Dorado II, the name by which the new airport is known until now, will be carried out in a municipality near the capital of the coffee country, on a lot of 1,300 hectares and with an investment of $ 2 billion pesos in its first phase.
A few months ago Building Management interviewed Felisa Pérez Luengo, Infrastructure Manager of Opain, who spoke about her role in the different expansion projects of the airport.
"The modernization works have led to a major transformation of the way the airport is managed. We have implemented the best practices of international airports from an operational point of view, but specifically in the area of infrastructure, maintenance plans, medium and long-term planning guidelines and best practices in the execution of works have been implemented to offer quality and compliance with times, "explained Luengo at the time.
