International. The city of Kansas City, Missouri, implemented a Business Sustainability Platform (ESP) that has allowed it to generate savings of $ 600,000 dollars in six facilities, for energy and space costs. The project also integrates a Building Automation System and Real Estate Management, Space and Maintenance applications of Archibus that will soon be applied to all buildings in the city.
Kansas City is a city recognized in the United States for its environmental approach since a few years ago the local administration will bet on implementing an ambitious energy conservation program.
When it was decided to implement this plan, a detailed RFP (Request For Proposals) was carried out to finally award the contract to the energy service company (ESCO), Johnson Controls (JCI) and Archibus.
Speaking to the specialized portal fmlink.com, Robert Rives, manager of Facility Services for Kansas City, explained that the first two companies designed a technical solution, the ESP, which adapted to the specific needs of the city.
"The main issues that needed to be addressed were data consolidation, increased visibility into utility costs, monitoring of energy use and maintenance patterns, as well as a better system for tracking the energy impact of the city's different real estate and rental properties," Rives said.
In total, the project had a budget of US$6 million and covered six buildings with a combined area of 1.3 million square feet. These facilities received updates to their lighting and HVAC equipment. In addition, three of the buildings upgraded their BAS systems and three others installed new systems.
Additionally, an integration of existing software was carried out, monitoring capabilities were added and the Portfolio Management, Lease Management and Preventive Maintenance programs, among others, of the Archibus company were implemented.
