United States. The Association of Building Owners and Managers ( BOMA) for its acronym in English, published a study that shows the impact that office buildings have on the economy of the United States. According to figures revealed by the Association, the operation of buildings contributes US$227 billion to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the northern country.
Among the data included in the study, the fact stands out that for every dollar invested in the operation of buildings the economy received a benefit of US $ 2.76 dollars, while investment in operating expenses generated 1.8 million jobs.
The report has been carried out every year since 2009 with the aim of evidencing the short- and long-term effects produced by the expenses that underpin the operations of office buildings, such as maintenance, repairs, construction services and public services, which generate important, continuous and growing expenses that drive the economy.
"Although the construction of new buildings is often pointed to as a source of significant economic benefits, once construction has been completed and these new properties are occupied, the economic benefits of their operations continue throughout the life of the building," explained Stephen S. Fuller, author of the report.
