Latin America. Siemens has signed an important agreement with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy of Bolivia for energy cooperation and future collaboration in the field of products and services intended for the oil and gas industry. In addition, the agreement includes a focus on renewable energy, as well as on the transmission and distribution of energy.
Siemens will supply combined cycle equipment for gas turbines aimed at significantly expanding the three power plants that the state-owned Ende Andina company has in Bolivia, according to the government's patriotic agenda until 2025. The agreement covers a long-term volume worth more than one billion euros.
Ende owns and operates three thermal power plants with a total capacity of approximately 460 megawatts (MW): Entre Ríos, Termoeléctrica del Sur and Termoeléctrica de Warnes, all equipped with Siemens gas turbines. Under the agreement, each of these power plants will be significantly expanded.
With this important agreement, we further strengthen the energy collaboration between Bolivia and Siemens, said Willi Meixner, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of Siemens' Power and Gas division. Our products and solutions will help our partner ENDE to significantly increase efficiency in electricity production and to realise future energy export plans. Through cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, as well as in transmission and distribution, we support the country's ongoing effort to improve access to electricity for its population, Meixner added.
Over the past few years, Bolivia's GDP has increased the most in all of South America. The country has the second largest natural gas reserve in the region. In addition, its central location on the continent offers promising opportunities for the export of electricity to its neighboring countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Paraguay or Chile.
