Colombia. The Germán Morales e Hijos Chain (GMH), received for EK Hotel, the Certification in Tourism Sustainability High Level and the Colombian Environmental Seal granted by SGS Colombia, after the audit carried out by that entity that verified compliance with the NTS TS 0002 standards, which determines the requirements of tourism sustainability and the NTC 5133, type 1 Labels Colombian environmental seal, for accommodation and lodging establishments.
According to Pilar Morales, Director of Sustainability of the Chain, "the hotel industry has both positive and negative aspects, which can harm or benefit the different interest groups; consequently, based on the identification of aspects and impacts of the activity, in the Chain we established, within our strategic objectives, the implementation of a tourism sustainability management model, which would allow us to minimize the negative impacts, and potentiate the positive ones".
Committed to sustainable tourism, which is one that meets current needs and at the same time protects and promotes activities for the future, the GMH organization developed for EK Hotel, an Integral sustainability management model where all the links of the chain engaged to make the operation of EK Hotel an example in sustainability.
"Obtaining this certification was possible thanks to the teamwork carried out by the hotel staff at all levels who have understood the importance of this issue and even developed individual contributions that today, due to their effectiveness, are part of the sustainable management model that we develop with great commitment, recognized by the certification obtained, and that places us in this privileged position within the hotels in Colombia", said Monica Giraldo, director of EK Hotel upon receiving the certifications.
