Colombia. Data centers became a fundamental piece for companies, information and the proper functioning of them fall largely on these infrastructures, but as all technology must evolve the time has come for DCIM (data center infrastructure management).
Ricardo Barros, software solutions director, EMEA South & South America at Schneider Electric, said that Colombia is on a good path in the implementation of DCIM systems, which will lead companies to achieve complete monitoring and thus reduce operating costs. "I analyzed the countries by the type of management, information and curiosity that customers have about DCIM, in Colombia they are interested and request knowledge about it, here they know what the future is and they launched into this boom."
The executive also assured that in Colombia there are already companies operating under this type of tool and that an important growth of the sector is coming, but he was also clear in warning that an information work must be maintained so that more sectors of the Industry know the benefits of working with DCIM, thus achieving an exact technical knowledge of how it works and the objectives that the technology meets.
To the questions, who or which are the companies that would benefit from using data centers or DCIM, the answer is blunt, anyone can seek to optimize resources with these tools, but there are sectors that are requesting them with more urgency.
"All companies that have small or large data centers must think about moving forward, so they will achieve the optimization of their operation. There are sectors that recognize the benefits of Data Center Infrastructure Management, such as those that have to do with telco or the banking sector, since they have critical needs, they can not have a single minute of failures, for example, systems such as ATMs that by a server with difficulties generate loss of money ".
The Schneider Electric official noted that governments have also realized the importance of including DCIM in their operation. "It must be said that the mention has changed, governments know the importance of having everything monitored in real time and that is why they are aiming to implement these technologies. For them, for example, it is very useful for their tax entities, which are responsible for collecting taxes and their processes are complex, there they receive a hand from the DCIM, they can not present operational problems in their systems. "
Every company is always looking to improve its processes and reduce costs, in this sense the DCIM will allow to extend the useful life of the data centers, which will reduce the investment in maintenance.
"With DCIM, additional costs are avoided and undoubtedly optimization of the entire data center is achieved, such as in the cabinets, servers, UPS and cooling units, therefore the useful life of the same will be increased and having control of what happens in it, when operational problems appear they generate extra expenses and you can not continue in a business in the dark and without clarity of operation, everything must be understood," Barros said.
Another of the arguments that companies have today to use these infrastructures is that they enter to play an environmental and sustainability role, now companies have sustainability targets and the only way to understand, understand and verify compliance with those objectives, is using a tool such as DCIM software for datacenters.
"Companies can become more environmentally friendly and I give advice. When people enter a data center, they can notice that it is very cold, if we all decreased by two degrees Celsius the percentage of 'cooling', it would save a lot of energy and increase the levels of energy efficiency and contribute to meet set goals, it is also an environmental and energy saving respite. "
