In terms of sustainability, companies are going beyond saving water and energy in their buildings. The new goal is to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certifications, which accredit sustainable constructions.
Three years ago, there were 45 LEED-certified structures, totaling one million square meters. Now, there are 104 projects with the Leed seal, which reach 1.6 million square meters. In addition, there are 234 buildings in line to achieve this certification, and with these would be added 4.6 million meters, according to the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS).
Bogotá leads the list of cities with the most certified structures, since 57 constructions already have the Leed seal and 80 are in the process of obtaining it; Medellín follows with 11 projects with the TITLE LEED and 26 in line to obtain it.
According to Cristina Gamboa, director of the Colombian Council of Sustainable Construction, "for 2018, according to a survey conducted by Doge Data & Analitics, the projected growth of the sustainable construction market is 20 percentage points in the period 2015 to 2018, and 8% of respondents expect to have more than 60% of their portfolio composed of this type of buildings."
