Thermal insulation, the main energy saving measure for the hotel sector

International. Nine out of 10 hotels can cut their energy expenditure in half with various measures. The rooftops and terraces with green roof allow the hotel to shelter from the rain and save up to 10% with the "awning effect".

On the occasion of the hotel rehabilitation day organized by the Evetson Group in Barcelona, Danosa, a specialist in integral solutions for sustainable construction, has shown several measures that hotels can attribute to see their energy expenditure reduced.

Thermal insulation is the main measure provided by Danosa to reduce the energy expenditure of hotels. With the insulation of the building, the energy expenditure would be reduced by 50%. To do this, the glazed areas of the façade must be replaced and air leaks must be controlled. With a complete thermal rehabilitation, energy savings could reach 90%, according to the German Passvhaus Building Platform.

Thermal insulation not only reduces energy expenditure, but also reduces CO2 emissions from establishments. This measure is fundamental, but it must be accompanied by other measures such as waterproofing and preserving water tightness in the most sensitive areas, such as roofs, gardens, kitchens, elevator pits, basements or exposed facades; thus avoiding the feeling of cold and possible negative effects on the structure of the building.

The rooftops and terraces with green roof allow the hotel to shelter from the rain and save up to 10% with the "awning effect". Noise is the great enemy of comfort, which is why many architects and engineers already use solutions such as the box in box system, which uses a floating box inside another structural box to prevent sounds from sneaking between plants and walls.
