RF technology predominant in Lutron lighting systems

Mexico. Even with important advances in domestic and business developments based on the Internet, via WiFi or the Internet of Things (IoT), solutions based on radio frequency technology maintain a predominant place in the lighting industry, said Rubén Urquijo, Director of Stock Sales and Flow & Specification of Lutron Electronics.

"In 1992 we invented and patented a solution for lighting devices to communicate wirelessly, today people know it as WiFi or IoT, but we are creators of that concept, because we invented that one device speaks to another without cables, via an FM signal on a frequency that operates at 434 MHz, that makes it very light, robust and reliable and we want to continue promoting it as we do commercially from 1996 to today," said the executive during his participation in Expo Lighting America, ELA, 2018, held in Mexico City.

Urquijo added: "Our expertise in the field of lighting control, in wireless radio communication, we are now mounting it to IoT platforms. That is, lighting systems can be controlled at home by radio frequency or away from home from any mobile device. People are looking for innovation, technology and ease to make this a reality. In addition, we have incorporated this technology into more Lutron solutions, such as wireless and wired curtains, both for residence and event rooms, offices, schools, hotels, boardrooms."

The executive mentioned that Mexico and Latin America are very important for Lutron globally. "In the company we have decided to continue investing in Mexico; our double-digit growth shows that we are very strong. Since 2009 we decided to invest in a manufacturing plant in Chihuahua, and it is one of the most important for Lutron worldwide. Mexico is an anchor country for Lutron in Latin America. We sell our products in more than 106 countries, and this means that we must comply with the quality standards in each of them, and that is why we are a world-class company."
