Siemens commits to 70% of its global energy consumption coming from renewable sources by 2020

International. Siemens has intensified its commitment to the environment with the goal of 70% of its global energy consumption coming from renewable sources within two years. Within its Siemens Energy Eficiency Program, the firm will be a "zero-emission company" by 2030. Since the launch of this initiative in 2015, the brand has reduced its CO2 emission by more than 25%, and  energy costs by 15%.

The company has launched 27 energy efficiency projects in its buildings around the world. The technologies and measures implemented include the installation of combined heat and power systems, absorption chillers, air conditioning or the recovery of heat and cooling towers.

Commitment to the environment
To become a "zero emissions" company in twelve years, Siemens has set new sustainability goals. In addition to its investment plan of 100 million euros in energy efficiency projects in 2020, the company plans to invest 45 million euros in the development of distributed power generation systems by that same year. In this way, the multinational sets as a goal for this date that 70% of its global energy consumption comes from renewable sources. It also seeks to gradually increase the infrastructure of the current charging points for electric vehicles and reach 200 units in Germany.

With the implementation of its portfolio of solutions, which brings together different technologies in the area of energy efficiency and CO2 reduction, the firm has achieved the optimization of more than 7,400 buildings. Thus, Siemens customers have reduced their carbon dioxide emissions by 10.5 million tons per year, which implies a saving of 2,000 million euros in energy costs.
