Mexico modernizes elevators of its hospitals with control techniques

Mexico. Control Techniques' E300 elevator drives have been selected for a major hospital modernization program in Mexico that  will have hundreds of new elevators installed throughout the country.

Carlos Silva, a Barcelona-based elevator control specialist, won the tender to supply 50% of the elevator control systems required in the first phase of the modernization program.

Mexico has recently embarked on a project to fully modernize many of the urban public hospitals, including those in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tampico, Toluca, Merida, Ciudad Valles, Ensenada, Nuevo Leon and Chihuahua.

Characteristics of elevators
New elevators for these hospitals must meet a wide range of criteria, such as low and high speeds, small and large cabins, groups of one or more cabins, and few or many stops. In addition, elevators must operate with exceptional reliability in the high temperatures, humidity, and altitude associated with most Mexican cities.

Thanks to the  motor control algorithm and microprocessor technology inside the E300 elevator drives, driving comfort is assured. Whether it is standard AC induction motors or high-efficiency permanent magnet machines, the fast current circuit serves to ensure vibration-free motor control and smooth cab movement.

Control Techniques drives offer contactor-free operation in elevator applications. The EN81-20, EN81-50 TÜV certified STO function provides a highly reliable method to prevent the motor from being driven. The benefits of switching to a non-contactor solution include simplified electrical installation, fewer EMC issues, less acoustic noise, improved system reliability, and lower system costs.

To date, 78 elevators have been delivered as part of the first phase of the hospital project, although there are potentially more than 5000 to install over the entire life of the entire project.

Due to the success of the hospital project to date, Carlos Silva has recently become the elevator controls provider for a second major project in Mexico. This project involves the installation of 75 elevators in 18 stations on a new urban train line in Guadalajara.
