According to spokesmen of the Government of Buenos Aires, 95% of the buildings of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires do not comply with the rules corresponding to preventing risks, most do not have the necessary elements to deal with cases of catastrophes.
Only 2,000 of the 35,000 properties that the port city has comply with the routine inspections that are consigned in the City's Provision 415 on the need for fixed facilities to fight fires.
According to Luis Grinspun, director of one of the firms authorized to inspect in some buildings the material is not adequate or is deteriorated which hinders the effective response by defense personnel and firefighters.
The official indicated that on many occasions the implements that are available do not meet the minimum conditions for their operation, hydraulic tests are not carried out and the pipes are not in condition, Grinspun told the Popular Newspaper of that city.
Some of the most common deficiencies are the low pressure of the pipes, the lack of emergency exits, the deterioration of the valves, among others. Facts that represent a latent danger and increase insecurity and the permanent exposure of human lives to risk.
"We observe that consortia prefer to spend more money on the aesthetics of the entrance hall, on the elevators and other details that value the properties," he added.
